The number of subsidy applications for projects with solar panels on the roof is increasing sharply. This is apparent from the latest round for the SDE+ subsidy. A total of 7.335 applications were made.
Applications for the Sustainable Energy Incentive Scheme (SDE+) could be submitted until 2 April 2020. In total, a budget of €4 billion was available for this spring round. This amount has been slightly exceeded. A total of €4,1 billion in subsidy has been requested.
97% sun-on-roof
This concerns 7.562 projects, good for a joint maximum annual production of 24,7 PJ of sustainable energy. 97% of this concerns so-called sun-on-roof projects. Other projects include wind energy, biomass and CHP.
Applications from SDE+ this spring had to be accompanied by a transmission indication from the grid operator, to ensure that subsidies go to projects for which there is actually space on the electricity grid. In total, regional grid operators gave a positive assessment of 92% of the requested transmission indication in this round.
Extension realization period
Due to the coronavirus outbreak, there may be longer delivery times for required materials or a lack of available labor. In addition, projects in some areas still have to deal with a lack of transport capacity on the electricity grid.
That is why the cabinet has decided that all projects with a completion date in 2020, which are delayed due to factors beyond their control, can be granted a 1-year exemption on request. The condition is that the project can be completed within that extra year.
€5 billion in the fall
Because the cabinet has announced that it will broaden the SDE+, and thereby also bring CO2-reducing technologies under the scheme, this was the last SDE+ round. The new SDE++ scheme will open this autumn. A budget of €5 billion available.
