Solar energy breaks all records

31 July 2020 - Redactie Boerenbusiness

Halfway through the year, the Dutch solar panels have already produced just as much sustainable energy as in 2019. The site reports this energieopwek.nl

Moreover, there is a good chance that the first half of August will show itself on the sunny side. Last weekend, energy companies had to pull out all the stops to properly match the supply of sustainable energy from wind turbines and solar panels with demand. In the coming weeks, the imbalance that always threatens is likely to become even greater.

Shrinking economy
The oversupply does not have a major impact on the price, which is comparable to the time before the corona crisis. Major fluctuations are not expected as demand will not grow quickly. After all, the global energy market is still dominated by (the fear of) a new corona wave, which slows down the appetite for investment. Moreover, it is also a well-known fact that with rising unemployment and a shrinking economy, the demand for energy also decreases. And the figures on the unprecedented contraction of the global economy are now piling up.

Hence, the situation in the energy market has been stable for weeks, after the corona pandemic showed the bottom of the well in an unprecedented way and even paid to get rid of the oil. The price of agricultural diesel has fallen very slightly in recent weeks, by about 1 cent. An LTO member benefit is now charged at € 89,29 per 100 liters for a purchase of 2.200 – 4.000 liters, excluding VAT and without call-out costs.

Currency rate dynamics
At the moment, the changed exchange rate between the euro and the US dollar also plays a role in the energy market. The euro has appreciated from 1,12 US dollar to 1,18 US dollar. Apparently, confidence in the US economy is falling, while confidence in the European economy is rising. The figures on coal production in North America are symbolic of the decline of the American economy. Not so little has been produced in 50 years.
