The BoerBurgerBeweging (BBB) wants to see a stop to the construction of solar parks and the construction of distribution centers and data centers in rural areas. The party believes that the landscape and biodiversity are being affected by the 'drowsing' and the construction of solar parks and that the quality of life in the countryside is under pressure.
Quality of life deteriorated
BBB relies on figures from CBS, which this week showed that more and more people are moving from the city to the countryside. Especially in this corona time, many city dwellers flee to the green space of the countryside. "Who wants to live, cycle, walk or go on holiday in an environment with solar parks and block boxes. People drive to Germany or Belgium just as easily," says BBB party leader Caroline van der Plas in a press release. "This is bad for the quality of life in our regions and bad for the local economy."
According to BBB, data from consultancy Deloitte shows that 892 square kilometers of roof are available for solar panels. Only 35,7 square kilometers of this is currently being used. The movement also cites the Dutch Data Center Association that 378.000 square meters of centers have been built up. This used to be green space.
Underground
According to BBB, current political policy must be overhauled. The party wants, among other things, a standstill on the construction of distribution centers, data centers and solar parks and research into the possibilities of building distribution centers and data centers underground. With the measures, the party wants to maintain a liveable countryside that is also economically viable.
