On November 24, contracting company Breemhaar from Ommen is harvesting another plot of potatoes. That goes with completely clean tires. Unique for the time of year. Photo: R. Pekkeriet
The potatoes are unloaded into containers by the harvester and then removed by a tractor with a hooklift carrier. That saves transport. Photo: R. Pekkeriet
Harvesting trees is a job that gets underway in the winter months. At Boomkwekerij Blok in Luttelgeest, apple trees are harvested and then grown at another grower. Photo: N. van der Boom
Another branch of trees. Pruning company Haven can use this saw arm, which most resembles a scene from the Bond film The world is not enough, to adjust windbreaks up to a height of nine metres. Photo: N. van der Boom
On Thursday 5 January Vervaet demonstrated their new Q-series harvester in East England. The beet campaign will continue there until the beginning of March. Photo: N. Wigdahl
In England, too, almost all beets are charged with a mouse. If that does not work, a stationary cleaner is switched on. Photo: N. Wigdahl
From winter to summer. Photographer Peter Burgler was active in Kenya to set up the cultivation of seed potatoes for a Dutch trading house. Kenya is located around the equator, so it is always summer there. Photo: P. Burgler
The seed potatoes are propagated on this farm and then sold to local growers. For example, the Kenyans have Dutch varieties at their disposal and they can provide themselves with seed potatoes. Seed potatoes are selected here. Photo: P. Burgler.

Every time the frost briefly arrives in the Netherlands, arable farmers benefit from it gratefully. Arable farm Schnieders from Nagele is plowing here with two combinations of wheat stubble. Photo: E. Koolhof

Beet campaign continues abroad

13 January 2017 - Redactie Boerenbusiness

Suiker Unie has now flagged the 2016 beet campaign in the Netherlands. But, in England, among other places, they will continue for a few more weeks.

In the Netherlands we see how arable farmers benefit from the frost. Also there are pictures from Kenya to warm up in these snowy days.
