Wednesday morning at 7 am, contractor Breure from Swifterbant will start the new manure season. A dairy farmer in Dronten has overcrowded the manure storage. In order to create space until the grassland season opens (15 February), some spreading is now being done on a plot of arable land belonging to a fellow arable farmer. Photos Niels van der Boom
It is not uncommon for Breure to start fertilizing on the first day of the season. 'Every year we have customers where the manure storage is full,' says planner Marten van den Hoek.
The conditions for injecting were not easy for the contractor. However, the need is great. There were onions on this plot last year. This year there will be corn.
Breure has a total of 6 pump trucks for drag hose fertilization. In addition to 6 sod injectors, there is also a slurry injector - which is used here - and a strip injector. There is also a self-propelled injector. Many cubic meters have to be injected in a short period of time.
It is not the only customer that the contractor is visiting this week. 'We are going to inject manure into dead grassland at a number of arable farmers. This is then immediately plowed so that it counts as arable land', says Van den Hoek. 'However, we use the slurry injector for that.'
It takes some getting used to for Breure employees on the first day of the new season. This winter, the company has developed its own control box with computer for the slurry injector. The GPS is also not working properly yet.
Fertilization started at 7 am. In total, approximately 2.000 cubic meters are spread out so that the pits have sufficient storage capacity until the grass season opens. If the conditions are right, you may inject some in between.

Spread the first cubic meters of slurry on arable land

From today, 1 February, it is again allowed to inject slurry on arable land. This is especially interesting for livestock farmers who have their storage overflowing. Contractor Breure set out early on Wednesday morning for a new fertilizing season.

If you now apply manure, I think you still have too much room for use, but in any case no feeling for good agricultural practice, I think this livestock farmer will also be screaming the loudest for the derogation
