Valtra expands its top model upwards with the S394. It delivers a maximum of 400 hp and has taken over the styling of the N and T series that the brand has already taken care of. The biggest innovation is the new controls.
In the cabin of the Valtra S you will find a completely new armrest called Smart Touch. We wrote on it Boerenbusiness already extensively. A big step forward for the Valtra driver. You can operate the most important functions with the large operating lever. Screens are adjustable as desired.
Perhaps the real tractor news is the A4 presented by Valtra in Paris. Top model A104 delivers 105 hp from a four-cylinder Agcopower engine with SCR (Adblue). It has a 12x12 transmission as standard, which can be upgraded.
MF's large 8700 series is based on the same large Agco platform. The 8740 Dyna-VT is the new top model in the series. This brand also breaks the 400 hp limit. It seems like a goal for all major tractor builders, where the bar was previously set at 300 hp. Power comes from the same Agco six-cylinder engine as the other models use.
The English JCB showed the new 8000 series before, but it is for the first time on the European mainland. The 8330 has a maximum of 348 hp, which is obtained from an 8,4 liter engine. It can drive on the road at a maximum speed of 70 km/h.
Argo, the parent company behind McCormick and Landini, surprised with a renewed X7 series, which meets the Tier 4 Final requirements. There are 5 model range powers between 165 and 225 hp with boost. It comes with a 54x27 powershift transmission. It has automated switching functions (PS-Drive) for on the road and in the country.
The operation is very similar to Deutz-Fahr. Especially the joystick and buttons. The large terminal can certainly be called clear. If you opt for factory-installed GPS, you will receive a separate system from Topcon.
McCormick already showed the X2015 at Agritechnica in 8. It wants to compete with the big boys. Literally. You can also find it in Paris, now in metallic red. It is still not available in series.
Despite the Japanese background, we can call Kubota French. It builds the big European tractors in Dunkirk. Last year it came with the renewed M5001 series. This M5111 has 113 hp from a Kubota 3,8 liter engine. Adblue is added to meet the emissions.
In the M7 you will find the large Tellus terminal of Kverneland. In the MGX you will find the small version that serves as a tractor terminal.
The MGX series is now in its third reincarnation. It was launched on the Sima. The M115GX-III has a maximum of 123 hp and a 24x24 powershift with 8 stages.
Case IH is celebrating 620 years since it introduced the Quadtrac tracked articulated tractor. Reason to provide the top model, the XNUMX, with the original color scheme that was also used twenty years ago.
The biggest crowd puller of the fair has to be Case's self-operating Magnum. Last year it was shown at the American Farm Progress Show. Now he is in Europe for the first time.
Case IH mainly wants to provoke reactions with the study model. For the time being you will not find him in the country. The tractor is similar to a standard Magnum wheeled tractor, except that the cabin has been removed and many sensors have been added.
New Holland has been working on a methane-powered tractor for years. This T6.180 is the last copy. There is still a lot of testing going on. There is also one in the Netherlands. The idea is that companies generate methane gas themselves, with a biogas installation, to drive the tractor.
Like colleague Case IH, New Holland is eager to provoke reactions. It also uses a more down to earth principle. The driver or farmer himself drives the tractor from field to field. This is in fact already possible with the current GPS technology. It is mainly the sensor technology that must make the whole thing safe.

Photo report Sima Paris

This is the crowd puller at the Sima show

27 February 2017 - Redactie Boerenbusiness

A tractor without a cabin and with many sensors is the crowd puller of the biennial Sima show that started again on Sunday in Paris. Tech editor Niels van der Boom went on a voyage of discovery.

The expectations for major novelties were not great beforehand. Nevertheless, a number of major players show new models at the fair.

Furthermore, it is mainly a French party, as witnessed by the large number of local manufacturers. This year's crowd pullers are the self-driving tractors from Case IH and New Holland. A sign of what lies ahead in the next ten years?

But, 'traditional' news is also present. Especially to meet the latest emission requirements. Only Valtra showed a truly new model.
