Tommie Geluk rained onion sets in Sint Annaland on Tuesday.
The early potatoes also get a splash of water.
Industrial peas are irrigated in Bree (Belgium). The region had to make do with 15 mm of rain in April and May.
In Hijken barley is being irrigated in the foreground and lilies are being irrigated behind.
Irrigation in Someren by Jan Berkers.
This morning, this grower from the Noordoostpolder received a text message: the potatoes now have to put in extra effort to attract moisture. That does not alter the fact that this is data, a guideline, because in the end I decide for myself.
The blue line shows that the moisture level is falling. The ascending lines are the sensors at two depths that measure the suction pressure at both the potato and the roots. The grower has decided to start irrigating immediately.
Marquis planted on April 10 in Northern France (Oxelaere).
It is very dry and the grower has no possibility to irrigate.
Flower buds begin to form.
The grower is positive: In principle, everything can still be fine here if it rains again within a week. But the precipitation forecast is small.
In South Limburg also problems with rabbits. Rudolf Kempener's beets (sown on 30 March) are growing well. Only massive damage from rabbits. Also a lot of damage in wheat, seed onions and maize. Hunters don't get the population back. Chicken wire around the plots does not help: the rabbits tear the wire to pieces.

More growers are putting reels in position

June 1, 2017 - Redactie Boerenbusiness

Will it be a disaster year for potatoes, as some claim, or will it be not that bad and will it look fine underground? Boerenbusiness-readers texted us pictures of the state of their crops.

The fact is that it is getting drier, because there is no rain. Many early potatoes are already irrigated, but now the main harvest is also being added.

Free growers don't worry too much. 'No disaster is only a disaster. So it looks promising (positive),' says one. After all, the weather can lead to good prices.
