Two days before, the demo field had been rained on to enable harvesting without dust. That worked well. The harvesting went smoothly. The yield was very low. Text & photos: Niels van der Boom
The harvesting demonstrations attract a lot of attention. Some stewards with air horns are supervising. Climbing everywhere on and in is no longer an option in 2018.
The demo field of PPO Westmaas has also suffered from the extreme weather of this season. Only clods are dug up in the low spots.
Dewulf showed its RF3060 bunker harvester, with Flexyclean cleaning unit, and the 4-row Kwatro bunker harvester.
The latest generation Puma 3 from AVR can be equipped with IoT technology, in order to collect and use machine data.
Ploeger still sticks to the AR-4BX and showed the most recent model. It didn't come down to cleaning this year.
The only big news came from AVR with the presentation of their Lynx harvester. It is special that a manufacturer innovates in this segment.
Also new is the Field Loader 240 from Dewulf. An MH 240 cistern with cleaning unit and transfer belt. The maximum capacity is 150 tons per hour.
Grimme has had such a machine in its program for several years now. Their name is Clean Loader. Also here a lot of attention for the overloading.
In addition to the transfer stations, 2 storage lines of Prinsen/Visser and AVR were also on display.
Unfortunately, this enormous self-propelled transfer truck from contractor Hack from Kruisland did not take action.
Just like this pulled Dezeure loading wagon on the stand of importer MCF.
Jaap van Wenum, chairman of LTO Akkerbouw, received the precision agriculture manual at the stand of the NCOR Foundation. The foundation also presented their precision fertilizer lending service, which is organized nationwide together with agricultural schools.
Alternative methods of haulm killing have attracted the attention of seed potato growers. Newcomer Rema from Friesland shows their EnvimaxX haulm puller and root cutter.
Fendt importer Mechan Groep demonstrates the new 943 MT crawler tractor in the Netherlands. Not in action today, but impressive.
Vaia importer De Heus has received type approval for all tipping trailers from the RDW. To this end, it is equipped with air brakes, among other things. This was clearly visible with many manufacturers.

Sector talks about an eventful year

Despite the fact that the harvesting demonstrations attracted a lot of attention during the Potato Demo Day in Westmaas, they were probably not the most discussed topic. The Dutch potato sector mainly talked about a very eventful year.

The 2018 edition was not one of major innovations in the field of machinery. The improvements are mainly in the small details. AVR presented their new trailed harvester Lynx and Dewulf showed his transfer station in action for the first time.

AVR should have developed a 2 row self-propelled bunker harvester, there would have been something to choose again
