Due to more than 100 mm of rain in March, early sown fields had to deal with a thick crust. That is why it is sometimes necessary to irrigate, as here on seed onions. Photo: N. van der Boom
Contractor Dermois from Eerste Exloërmond sows their first parcel of sugar beet on 27 March. Little has been sown in the northeast. Photo: H. Deuling
Most fields still need fertilizer first. Moorlag Manure Processing from Nieuw-Weerdinge is injecting here. Photo: H. Deuling
Country work, but here by hobbyists. In Heesch, Brabant, on March 30, 80 enthusiasts put their Ford tractors into action. Photo: P. Kolk
These include well-known but also rare examples, such as this Australian Ford 8401 and a 7910. The Netherlands has had a special Ford and Fordson association (Blue Force) since 2018. Photo: P. Kolk
Go back in time. Chopping maize with old-timers is popular in the Netherlands. In Ireland this applies to grass. A club in County Waterford organized a chopping day. Photo: S. Casey
Before modern shredders made their appearance, grass was chopped with a refined flail mower. Photo: S. Casey

No mass start at spring work

4 April 2019 - Redactie Boerenbusiness

Spring work among arable farmers got off to a quiet start at the end of March. The ground was not competent everywhere, so there was no question of a mass start. Much work has already been done, especially in the southwest.
