The new catch crop rules for the cultivation of maize on sandy and loess soil kept many maize growers quite busy at the beginning of this year. We advised growers who did not opt for under-sowing to choose varieties from the very early or early group.
These varieties (such as LG 7005, LG 7005 and the new one LG 7005) are ready for chopping on many plots of sand and loess soil in the Netherlands before 1 October. Moreover, the potency of these varieties is only slightly lower than that of varieties from the mid-early group that mature much later. LG 31.205, the most sown variety in the Netherlands this year, lives up to these expectations in practice.
