Crop tour Week 17

Dusting while potato planting

21 April 2020 - Redactie Boerenbusiness

The potato growers of the Boerenbusiness Crop tours have been busy preparing the land and planting the potatoes. That was sometimes accompanied by dust bites last week, unless the plot before it was irrigated.

Hank
Planting took place last week in Hank (North Brabant). This is done with a cup planter with ridging hood, in front of the tractor is a front cultivator to work the soil. The main tillage has been plowing and the size 45-50 is planted on the marine clay.

Middenmeer
In Middenmeer, the grower works with an NKG system (non-turning soil preparation). He has slammed the green manure and is working the soil with a cutter. The grower wants to use this to shred the crop residues.

Fijnaart
The grower in Fijnaart started planting last week. Planting is done with a cup planter with sizes 35/45. A front cultivator is mounted in front of the tractor to work the soil.

Scharendijke
In Scharendijke, 30m³ of pig slurry per hectare was spread on the land before they started planting. "Due to the moisture of the manure, the soil falls quite nicely. Fortunately, the soil also does not dust that much," says the grower. The potatoes were planted in size 35/45.
