The participant from Nieuwerkerk mowed on April 22, making it the first participant of the Roughage Tour to mow.
On the plot in Nieuwerkerk there was between 24 and 30 centimeters of grass, so this resulted in a considerable cut.
On April 23, the grass was laid on a ridge because the grass dried very hard. By laying the grass on its back, it dries less quickly.

On April 24, the grass was chopped and driven into the pit.
Driving into the pit is done with a shovel, the tires of the shovel clearly show that the grass contains a lot of sugar.
The fields of grass were mowed in Udenhout on 24 April.

Roughage tour Week 18

Mowing the first round of grass for the pit or the bale

27 April 2020 - Redactie Boerenbusiness

Over the past week, three participants of the Boerenbusiness Roughage tour mowed their plots of grass and put it in silage or in the bale.

The participant from Nieuwerkerk (Zeeland) was the first participant to mow, he mowed his grass on April 22 and drove it into the pit on April 24. a lot of grass came off the plots, before mowing he measured between 24 and 30 centimeters of grass on his plots.

On April 24, the participant from Udenhout (North Brabant) mowed his grass, this grass was driven into the pit on April 25. The grass was of a good quality, only the quantity was disappointing. This can also be seen in the photo during mowing.

Pressing your own bales
The participant from Zuidbroek (Groningen) mowed his grass on April 25 and put it in the bale on April 26. He does the latter himself, making bales with a diameter of 1.40 meters with his press. He prefers not to have the bales bigger because they will then become too heavy and unmanageable.
