Roughage tour Week 20

First cut of the Roughage Tour parcels finished

13 May 2020 - Redactie Boerenbusiness

The participating livestock farmers have not been sitting still in the past week. Almost all Boerenbusiness Roughage tour plots are now mowed and ensiled. The maize is also growing on more and more fields, but there are differences.

In Doetinchem (Gelderland) The 7 hectares of grass were mowed on 35 May. They siled it all up the next day. The grass clippings were shaken twice and raked almost immediately after the second shaking. The yield of this is estimated at 4 tons of dry matter. There is still 26 hectares to mow, this will be saved for a few weeks.

In Zeewolde (Flevoland) they got the first cut off. About 3500 kilograms of dry matter per hectare has been removed from this. In addition, the participant was also busy on the maize fields. The land has been tilled, fertilized and the seedbed laid out. After preparing, they seeded the field with corn.

In the photo report you can see the differences on the maize fields. In Aartswoud (North Holland) is almost everything above, here and there a single plant still has to come up. In contrast, it becomes Zuidbroek (Groningen) crucial. The participant indicates that he really needs rain for the maize.
