Crop tour Week 22

Drought disrupts potato emergence

28 May 2020 - Redactie Boerenbusiness

The potato plots of the Boerenbusiness Crop tours were planted 4 weeks ago. On most plots the potatoes break through and this produces beautiful photos.

In Someren was rained 30 millimeters last week to provide the potatoes with moisture. A choice was made for 30 millimeters to provide the potatoes with sufficient moisture for tuberization.

Precipitation not enough
The grower in Middenmeer indicates that last weekend's precipitation is quickly evaporating again. "The potatoes are still growing, but there should be a shower soon," says the grower.

Potatoes are having a hard time
The plot in Fijnaart has a special feature of 25% to 55% slipability. As a result, large differences can be seen on the plot. In the lighter spots, the potatoes are coming through or have already broken through. In the heavier places they come through or potatoes have only germinated as in the photo.
