The heat wave of the past week affects the potato plots of the Boerenbusiness Crop tour. Potato growers have started irrigating the plots. Here and there you can also see that the plots have started to wear out. With the irrigation, the growers hope to be able to get extra kilos under the plants.
In Dronten, the grower has irrigated 25 millimeters on the plot. "The clay is malleable, this is because the soil has not dried out and there was extra water in the construction this year than in other years."
In Someren there is 30 millimeter rainfall. ''I want to keep as much growth in the potatoes as possible. I suspect that the 30 millimeters was not enough, so I will water again this week, which will probably be the last time," the grower said.
