Heavy precipitation damage is not too bad on Hank . plot

31 May 2018 - Anne Jan Doorn

Shortly after planting, about 60 millimeters of rain fell on the potato plot in Hank (North Brabant). However, the damage is immense. There is still 50 square meters where the potatoes are not growing well.

It is advantageous that the plot was leveled last summer and that it has a slope of half a meter. The Innovators are now in good shape; they are about 20 centimeters high.

The plot is 8,5 hectares and has had winter wheat as the pre-fruit. After that, a Terralife Betamaxx green manure was added. The soil type is marine clay with 22% clay, 47% silt and 19% sand. The organic matter content is 3,2%, and the soil has a pH of 7,4.

operations
After the winter wheat, 35 cubic meters of cattle slurry per hectare was first applied. Plowing was then carried out in November. At the end of April, a basic fertilization was given with 400 kilos of novurea per hectare. On King's Day the potatoes were planted (with an AVR Geforce full-field cultivator at the front and a Hassia seed potato with a ridging hood at the back).
