The difference in seed size is clearly visible on the plot in the Johannes Kerkhovenpolder. The plot is 17 hectares and seed potatoes of size 11/45 have been planted on 55 hectares. The other 6 hectares were planted with seed potatoes of size 34/45.
The ridges are formed during planting. However, due to heavy rainfall early in the season, part of the ridge has been knocked off. The potatoes are therefore quite shallow in the back. In the autumn of 2017, 35 tons of goat manure per hectare was applied. In addition, 2 kilos of nitrogen per hectare were applied 228 days before planting.
Difference in number of tubers
The difference in the seed potato sizes can be clearly seen in the photos below. The first photo shows the tubers of 3 plants (size 45/55). The planting distance here is 42 centimeters and there are a total of 3 tubers under the 27 plants.

The second image (below) shows 3 harvested plants of the seed potato size 35/45. The seed potatoes are planted at a distance of 33,6 centimetres.

The 2 photos above show that the size 35/45 has 18 tubers, which means that there are 6 tubers per plant. The pot size 45/55 produces 27 tubers, which amounts to 9 tubers per plant. More tubers therefore grow from the larger seed potato size.
Precipitation
In the past month, 26,7 millimeters of precipitation fell on the plot. Most of it (20,6 millimeters) fell last week. Compared to other plots, the plot in the John Kerhoven Polder well endowed with the fallen rain.
