Special Crop tour week 30

High Maximum Temperature Torments Innovator

27 July 2018 - Frank Vermeulen

The heat wave also affects the plots participating in the Boerenbusiness Crop tour. The maximum temperatures rise to above 35 degrees Celsius. What is the status of the Crop Tour plots?

On the plot in spike has now been irrigated for the fourth time. No irrigation ban has yet been imposed in this region. The foliage is holding up well. Where it previously appeared on this plot that there was no such extreme heat and drought, that is now the case. The maximum temperature rose to 26 degrees Celsius on July 34,7.

There are large differences between the plots where irrigation is allowed and where it is not. Foliage is dying off on the plots where it is not possible to irrigate. This is also noticeable on the plot in the John Kerkhoven Polder† It is not possible to irrigate here, because the plots are too close to the sea. There is no tuber moult on this plot, but the plants do suffer a lot from the heat. Earlier it appeared that the difference in potermate is clearly visible.

Irrigation in North Holland
On the plot in Middenmeer the crop is now starting to ripen. At the beginning of July it turned out that, despite the heat, the plants on this plot were not in the stress. shots. Since then it has been rained twice, with about 2 millimeters each time. If the coming weekend remains dry, then a third time will be irrigated. The fresh, green color has faded from the crop.

The average temperature on this plot is 18,9 degrees Celsius, which has been measured from 1 July. This average is more than 0,5 degrees Celsius lower than that of the other plots combined. The average of all plots together is 19,56 degrees Celsius. The highest measured temperature on this plot is 33,6 degrees Celsius.

Heat in Flevoland
Also the plot in Marknesse has to do with high maximum temperatures. For the past 3 days, a temperature of above 30 degrees Celsius was measured here every day. In the meantime, this plot has been irrigated 3 times, with 25 millimeters each time.

The highest maximum temperature has so far been measured on the potato plot in Biddinghuizen† A temperature of 26 degrees Celsius was measured on this plot on Thursday 37,5 July. Irrigation will resume on this plot next week.An overview of the crops on the plots that participate in the Crop Tour.
