Special Crop tour week 33

Extremely little coarseness in Zeeland

14 August 2018 - Frank Vermeulen

On the plots of the Boerenbusiness Crop tour was done in week 31 trial harvesting. This showed that there is a difference of 44 tons between the highest and the lowest yield. And the lowest yield is for the plot in Zeeland, where the yield was 23 tons per hectare.

The plot in Zeeland already showed that it very vulnerable was due to drought. In week 32 there finally fell stir. The seed potatoes (size 45/50) were planted 15 at a distance of 33 centimeters and it is not possible to irrigate on the plot. Plowing took place at the end of August 2017. The plot is a variegated plot (in terms of soil weight) and the pre-fruit is grass.

The trial harvesting figures (week 31) show that the size sorting had 65 tubers 3 millimeters upwards, which together weigh 0,8 kilos (12% of the total yield). The 60/65 millimeter grade only had 1 tuber and the 55/60 size grade was also disappointing. In these grades 6 tubers were counted, which means that the weight has not even come to 1 kilo. The size range 50/55 had 9 tubers.

Most tubers are in the low size ranges. The size 45/50 resulted in 17 tubers, while the 40/45 millimeter size has 25 tubers. In the smallest size (35/40 millimetres), the number of tubers came to 22. The lower grades result in a weight of 3,9 kilos, which is about 57% of the total yield. It underwater weight on this plot amounted to 450 grams. An overview of the yields on the plot in Zeeland.
