Special Crop tour week 33

Innovators Crop Tour are on the way back

17 August 2018 - Frank Vermeulen

If we look at the plots participating in the Boerenbusiness Crop tour, then we see that the crops are on the way back. The plots have suffered a lot from the heat and the precipitation of the past few days is therefore very welcome.

Earlier it became clear that the rain lighting brought to the plots. But, how is the crop now on the plots of the Boerenbusiness Crop tour? And which plots mature the fastest?

Johannes Kerkhovenpolder shows collapsed foliage
On the plot in the John Kerkhoven Polder the crop suffers greatly. This has already become clear in the trial harvesting. The foliage has collapsed and dead leaves can be found on the ridges. This plot is also sprayed against phytophthora.

In addition, foliar nutrition is given on this plot and it has already been found that the difference between the various pot sizes is clearly visible. However, it should be noted that this is no longer visible.

Crop in Middenmeer shows growth
On the plot in Middenmeer the crop, on the other hand, grows considerably. This is where the most rain (2 millimeters) fell in the past 67 weeks. However, wax has been found in the spray traces, as a result of the heat of recent months. The foliage on this plot is not yet dying.

Early on in the season it became apparent that there was a visible difference in the processing of the ground. The portion that has not been turned over looks significantly better than the portion of this field that has been plowed.

Marknesse shows difference in structure
On the potato plot in Marknesse the foliage has collapsed and dies in a healthy manner. The difference in the structure is very visible this year. In places where the soil is less suitable, the potatoes grow significantly less.

Biddinghuizen shows strips
The potatoes on the plot in Biddinghuizen will be harvested on 14 September, during the AgroTechniek Holland (ATH). Therefore, a spraying with maleic hydrazide (MH) on this plot is not necessary.

The strips in the plot, caused by the different pre-fruits, remain clearly visible. On this plot, every 2 weeks with a drone flown in order to map the growing season as accurately as possible.

Fijnaart and Hank are on his way back
Into the crop on the plot Fijnaart is also on its way back. The foliage on this plot has slumped in a moderate way. The potatoes do show considerable regrowth. On the plot in Hank the crop is also in pretty good shape. In places where the structure is less (such as the corners of the field), the crop begins to die.
