First onions sown in Zeeland

28 March 2019 - Redactie Boerenbusiness

The first plot of onions from the Boerenbusiness Crop tour was sown on Thursday, March 28. This concerns the onion plot in Kortgene (Zeeland) and on this plot onions of the Dormo variety are sown.

Compared to the rest of the Netherlands, the province of Zeeland received the least rainfall over the past month. In the north and center of the Netherlands, almost twice as much fell. This has ensured that the first onions can already be sown on the Gewastour plot in Kortgene.

Psysiomax
At the beginning of this week, 300 kilos of Psysiomax were administered to this onion plot. This soil improver is based on lime and contains a high level of trace elements.

Physiomax was sprinkled at the beginning of the week.

Prepare sowing
The day before sowing the onions, the plot is prepared for sowing. This was done with a speed harrow at the front and a rotary harrow at the back. The light sandy soil is finely covered in this way.

The plot was prepared for sowing 1 day before sowing.

3,8 units per hectare are sown on this onion plot in Kortgene. This is done on beds of 1,5 meters, with 5 rows.
