Crop tour Potatoes week 16

Potato planters in full swing

16 April 2019 - Redactie Boerenbusiness

On 4 of the 10 potato plots of the Crop Tour the Innovators have been planted, the other plots will probably follow next week. The Crop Tour plots that were planted first, expect the first sprouts this week.

On the plot in Scharendijke (Zeeland) the potatoes were the first in the ground. In this growing area, planting is generally done early this season, which means that the planting work will be finished next week.

On the potato plot in Escharen (North Brabant) the potatoes were planted on Wednesday 10 April. The ridge cultivating, planting and earthing up was done in 1 operation.

On the plot in Escharen, the potatoes are planted and milled in one operation.

On the plot in Fijnaart (North Brabant) the potatoes were planted on Monday 15 April. Initially the plan was to plant on Saturday 13 April, but mainly the bottom layer of the plot was not yet suitable. The siltability on the plot varies between 20% and 50%.

On the plot in Fijnaart, the ridges are milled 1 day after planting.

Next week
The expectation is that the rest of the plots will be planted next week. On the plot in Middenmeer (North Holland) the main cultivation was carried out in September, which ensures a moist building layer. On the plot in Dronten (Flevoland) the plot will first be milled and then planted.

On the plot in Hank (North Brabant) the plot is planted in 1 operation. In Goor (Overijssel) the plot was ploughed on Tuesday 16 April after fertilisation. In Ens (Flevoland) the plot was ploughed in February. On Saturday 13 April the plot was fertilised with 30 cubic metres of pig manure.

Pig manure was applied to the plot in Ens on Saturday, April 13.

Delay
On the plot in Spijk (Groningen) the planting activities are still pending. Due to the heavy rainfall in March, the planting activities are slowly getting underway this week. Preparatory activities will be carried out on the plot this week, such as combating the storage.
