Due to the favorable conditions, most onion sets have now been planted. The onion sets that were planted in February are also growing well. The temperatures of the past period have ensured that most onion sets have 3 pipes.
The winter onion sets are growing very well and several plots have already been closed. This means that the onion sets will not be later than last year. It remains to be seen what effect the lower temperatures of recent weeks have had on the development of shooters.
Spring onion sets
The spring onion sets (Cupido, Contado and Corrado), which some growers have planted at the end of November, look promising in terms of growth. It is therefore expected (if there are no extreme weather influences this season) that they can be harvested around 8 July, just like last season. This is approximately 2 to 3 weeks earlier than when the varieties are planted in February.
