Crop tour Onions week 17

Is duality starting to play a role?

23 April 2019 - Redactie Boerenbusiness

Temperatures were considerably higher last week than the week before. Various plots of the Crop Tour have therefore been irrigated to stimulate germination. Seed has germinated on all plots, in which bisexuality may play a role.

The average temperature on the onion plots of the Boerenbusiness Crop turnover increased by about 5 degrees Celsius over the past few days. The average temperature on the plot in Escharen exceeded 22 degrees Celsius on Monday, April 17,5.

Irrigate
Irrigation has now been carried out on the 3 plots in Flevoland. 12 millimeters per hectare was applied to the onion plot in Tollebeek and 15 millimeters per hectare in Zeewolde and Dronten. Half of the onion plot in Dronten has even been irrigated for a second time.

Liquid fertilizer was applied to the onion plot in Zweeloo (Drenthe) before sowing. As a result, the soil on this crop tour plot is somewhat moist. The seed has germinated within 10 days.

The seed has also germinated on all other plots. The germination of the seeds that are located more shallowly will take some time. The difference between the germinated seeds and the seeds that have yet to germinate is small. As a result, it is not yet possible to speak directly about bisexuality.

Onion plots that have been previously sown are cautiously mentioned. In Kortgene (Zeeland), some of the onions are already up, while another part of the seed has not even germinated. Onions are also at the top in Oeffelt (North Brabant). The forecast rain next week is expected to bring recovery.
