The onion plots of the Boerenbusiness Crop tours could use slightly higher temperatures. The weather posts in the east of the Netherlands recorded temperatures near freezing on Monday, May 13. Despite this cold, a lot of comfort is experienced.
The weather posts on the onion plots of the Crop Tour Boerenbusiness registering a drop of 9 to 2 degrees Celsius in the average temperature from Thursday, May 3. In the east of the country, the weather posts recorded temperatures around freezing point during the night of Sunday, May 12 to Monday, May 13.
Frost to the ground
The weather posts are approximately 1,5 meters above ground level, but it has frozen heavily in several places on the ground. A temperature of -6,4 degrees Celsius has even been measured around Twente. If we look at the onion plots of the Crop Tour, we see that only in Oeffelt (North Brabant) has there been frost on the ground. The onions are not expected to have suffered any damage here, although growth has been slowed down.
However, if we want to see more growth, slightly higher temperatures are desirable in the onion plots. The first pipe is now being counted on most plots. The second pipe is even being observed in the onion plot in Kortgene (Zeeland).
Lots of convenience
The calm and steady weather conditions provide great convenience for weed control. In many cases, weeds can be controlled at the desired time.
