On 2 plots of the Boerenbusiness Crop tour, the first potatoes came out of the ground last week. These plots show steady growth. On the other plots, we have to wait and see when the potatoes will appear above the ground.
The potato fields in Scharendijke (Zeeland) and Escharen (North Brabant) are now turning green, despite the drought. On these plots, almost everything is upstairs and we are waiting for the last plants. There is still sufficient moisture present at the bottom of the back, so that there is no question of irrigating yet.
The stems of a number of plants were counted on the Crop Tour plot in Scharendijke. This is to monitor the turnout.
On the potato plot in Scharendijke, it seems that some more stems will be added in the coming days.
Favorable prospects?
The prospects for the plot in Middenmeer (North Holland) are favourable. The expected temperatures will warm the back, which is expected to accelerate the growth process. The Crop Tour plots in Voorst (Gelderland), Fijnaart (North Brabant) and Goor (Overijssel) are about to break through.
Because cut seed potatoes have been planted on the plots in Voorst and Fijnaart, there can be some variation in the emergence. However, the expectation is that most plants will also be on top of these plots by the weekend.
