For the second day in a row, the temperature records will be broken today (July 25, 2019). The plots of potatoes and onions that participate in the Boerenbusiness Crop tour groan under this heat. An overview of the temperatures on the plots around 14.00 p.m.
To avoid the heat, many growers irrigate their crops, if possible, during the night (see photo on top of the onion plot in Kimswerd). That is not a superfluous luxury, given the temperatures. The highest temperatures are again measured in the east of the Netherlands today.
The potato plot in Goor noted a temperature of 14.30 degrees at 38.2 pm. The onion field in Oeffelt produces a temperature of 37.9 degrees at the same time.
On the Crop Tour page you can view live weather data of the participating Potato en onions follow parcels.
Irrigation for cooling
The onion plots in Kimswerd (Friesland) and Zweelo (Drenthe) were irrigated to cool the soil.
