Most crop tour plots have now (largely) been ironed. The wind also seems to have helped with this.
The onion plot in Kortgene (Zeeland) has been completely ironed. In addition, the wind on Saturday 10 August caused all onions to lie flat. The expectation is that the onions can be harvested at the beginning of September. "As it seems now, we arrive at a yield of 40 to 45 tons," says the onion grower.
The onions on the plot in Kimswerd (Friesland) have drooped slightly due to the strong wind. However, the onions are not ironing yet. There is a nice pack of foliage on these onions. Unlike many other onion plots in this region, there are no 'dead spots' in the foliage.
Irrigation
The onion plot in Zweeloo (Drenthe) was irrigated for the seventh time on Monday 12 August. That is 1 time more than last year. Then an average yield of almost 60 tons was achieved. According to the onion grower of this plot, the onions are in a similar condition. The onions have a large and vital foliage package. About 66% of the plot has now been ironed.
The plot in Zeewolde (Flevoland) is running late due to hail damage at the start of the growing season. The condition of the onions is good. However, a lot still needs to be done to get coarse. With more growing days ahead, it is therefore not a disaster that the plot is late.
The onions on this plot were almost ready to iron. Last Saturday's wind gave the last push, so the onions are now flattened. That is also the reason that on Sunday 11 August the plot was sprayed with MH60.
