Dutch Crop tour Potatoes week 33

For some plots the rain comes too late

13 August 2019 - 2 comments

For the Crop Tour plots, rain comes after the sunshine. However, for a number of these potato plots the precipitation came too late.

It seems that the rain has come too late for the potato plot in Goor (Overijssel). The plot cannot be irrigated, so it has suffered greatly from the dry and hot weather of July. Many plots in this region show a similar picture.

The Crop Tour plot in Scharendijke (Zeeland) does not seem to be able to benefit from the precipitation either. It is expected that few tons will be added, compared to the trial harvesting figures of week 31 (40,4 tons). These Innovators will be delivered ex-country in approximately 2 weeks.

Of the plots participating in the Crop Tour, the potato plot in Escharen (East Brabant) is irrigated the most: 8 times. This means that the yield from the trial harvesting was the highest of all plots. However, in the corners of the plot, where the reel has not been, the drought of the first months is clearly visible.

For the corners on the plot in Escharen (North Brabant) the precipitation comes too late.

The Innovators on the Gewastour plot in Ens (Flevoland) are starting to wear out. The strong wind of Saturday 10 August also gave the potatoes a little knock (twisted leaves on the top of the plants). "Instinctively, the Innovators were in better shape last year, when a yield of 59 tons was achieved in June," says the grower of the plot.
