Dutch Crop tour Potatoes week 35

Yields from the Scharendijke plot known

27 August 2019 - Redactie Boerenbusiness - 3 comments

The hectare yield on the plot in Scharendijke (Zeeland) is 43,9 tons. It was not possible to irrigate this plot, so it cannot necessarily be called a poor yield.

The Crop Tour plot in Scharendijke (Zeeland) was cleared on Monday, August 19. This plot was planted on April 7, making it as first has been planted. There was not too much rain in the period before planting, which made the conditions good for early planting.

The first trial harvesting of the potato plots of the Boerenbusiness Crop tour took place in week 31. During the trial harvest, the plot yielded 40,4 tons per hectare. This provisional yield was above the average of the other plots. The underwater weight is 260 grams.

Less growth than in 2018
Last year, the plot in Scharendijke yielded only 31 tonnes per hectare during the trial harvest (which was again held in week 19,6). There was also relatively much regrowth on this plot in 2018. Ultimately, the yield during the final trial harvest (in week 36) was 30,8 tons per hectare. This year, after the preliminary trial grub, the growth is only 3 tons per hectare.

After the extreme heat at the end of July, there was little left of the foliage. Photo: 27-01-2019.
