In week 35, test harvesting was done on the onion plots of the Gewastour. How do these results relate to the average yield of recent years?
According to figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), the average yield over the past 5 years is 51 tons per hectare (including 2018 harvest). The trial harvesting figures of the Gewastour exceed this level: 55,9 tons per hectare.
The average yield on the Crop Tour plots is also expected to be higher than the national average. Many so-called 'good' plots participate in the Boerenbusiness Crop tour, although national expectations are a lot more volatile.
irrigate a lot
That irrigation pays off, according to the trial harvesting figures of the onion plots in Oeffelt (North Brabant) and Zweeloo (Drenthe). These plots are irrigated relatively often: in Oeffelt it was irrigated 6 times and in Zweeloo even 8 times. In both cases this results in a net yield above 65 tons.
growth potential
In order to get an idea of the plots that took part in the Crop Tour, all trial harvests were held in week 35. While a number of plots are already being cleared in week 36 (for example Oeffelt, Tollebeek and Dronten), there are also plots that can remain standing for a while. For example, the plot in Kimswerd (Friesland) is only 20% ironed.
Trial harvest results
To indicate the difference between the early and late plots, the growth potential is indicated in the overview below with a number between 1 and 5. A 1 stands for a plot that can be harvested this week (week 35) and a 5 for a plot that still has a lot of growth potential.

* When calculating the test harvesting figures, 15% has been deducted from the gross weight, partly because of spraying tracks and headlands. In addition, a deduction percentage of 7% has been applied for dehydration.
