8 September 2020 - Kimberly Bakker

The plots of the Boerenbusiness Crop tour Onions. For example, in Kortgene and Kimswerd, the harvesting of the onions will start in the short term and the last spraying has now been carried out in Wezup.

The onion plot in Kortgene (Zeeland) is harvested towards the end of the week or at the weekend. "Part of the plot is already dead, but another part is still quite green. That's why we decided to wait a little longer before harvesting." The grower is certainly satisfied with how the onions look. "Especially the early onions look good. The part that is still green (the late onions) is a bit more volatile."

Latest sprays in Wezup
The last spraying has now been carried out on the plot in Wezup (Drenthe). There is, however, a dichotomy visible in the plot. "We have 2 varieties on this field. The first part of the yellow onions (approximately 4,5 to 5 hectares) is therefore harvested at the end of the week, but the other part has to remain in place for another 2 to 3 weeks", so says the grower. "The onions do look good, by the way, and have a nice size." This is reassuring, given that they lagged somewhat in terms of growth in the beginning. "Fortunately, they have grown well."

The last spraying has been carried out on the plot in Wezup (Drenthe).
