Excellent results with Serenade in potato cultivation

18 March 2022

Serenade last year again resulted in positive results in potato cultivation. Over several years, we see that Serenade makes a positive contribution to the quality of Dutch potato cultivation, according to research on about a hundred practical plots together with growers, advisers and the potato chain.

By conducting research (Serenade Project) and its increasing use in practice, clear conclusions can be drawn about the effect of Serenade in the soil.

Serenade settles on and around the roots of the potato plant and the stolons. As a result, we see various effects emerge from year to year:

  • Quality improvement of the potato skin and internal quality
  • Effect on common scab (grassland scab), rhizoctonia and silver scab
  • More minerals in the tuber (including iron, manganese, calcium) due to more stolons root formation
  • A higher hectare yield.
Graph 1: more minerals in the tuber when using Serenade, which ensures a better internal but also a better peel quality of the potato. The red line is the grower's standard.

Serenade in 2021
Last season Serenade showed the best results so far. Where the extreme drought played a role in the first few years, last year was on the wet side. Serenade must have a certain amount of moisture if it wants to grow on the root. The growth of the Serenade has been better this year due to the presence of moisture and that is clearly reflected in the results.

 Advice 2022
The advice for a feather treatment with Serenade remains unchanged. Serenade is widely permitted in all potatoes and can therefore also be used in organic potato cultivation.

  • seed potatoes: Add Serenade 5 L/ha to a full chemical dose
  • Consumption: Add Serenade 5 L/ha to a half dose of chemistry or apply solo
  • Starch: Serenade 5 L/ha instead of the chemical soil treatment

In recent years, Serenade has proven itself in large-scale practical trials, but also in practice as a good working addition or even solo applications in potato cultivation for a better (peel) quality!
