The Innovator plots participating in the Boerenbusiness Crop tour are not yet ready for harvest, but the growers are busy lifting other varieties of ware potatoes. Especially for delivery ex country. Due to the drought, harvesting is no longer possible, so most growers irrigate beforehand. Despite the dry conditions, the Innovator seems to be growing quite a bit on the plots.
At many seed potato growers and a few growers of ware potatoes, the harvesters have already harvested the first hectares this year. Out of necessity, many growers choose to irrigate first before harvesting in order to prevent damage to the tubers, among other things. Other growers, however, harvest the potatoes from the land without pre-irrigation. Growers on whose plots the Innovator is still somewhat green, let it be known that a lot of kilos are still growing.
Kees Trouw from Hellevoetsluis (ZH) says that he does not yet harvest potatoes at his company, but he does at his neighbor of the week. Harvesting was not easy. The neighbor hadn't watered, because the potatoes left the land. But as a result, they did not get any loose soil on the mat and they suffered from hard, sharp clods. The potatoes that go into storage at Trouw will have to wait for the rain next week. At Trouw they expect 2 to 3 millimeters every day from Tuesday. He can use it well for harvesting.
Nine days after the trial lifting of Boerenbusiness Kees Trouw carried out a trial harvesting with Farm Frites, which resulted in a growth of 9%. He will be spraying his Innovator next week.
(Too) dry harvesting on the sand.
Daan Janssen from Escharen (NB) is not very pleased with the harvest. He is also harvesting the potatoes from the field, but thinks it is going dramatically. "Very bad, much too dry to harvest properly" He has no intention of harvesting potatoes for storage yet and therefore does not irrigate the plot. With his potato harvester he drives at almost 6 km/h to take soil with him and thus cause minimal damage to the potatoes. He harvests a number of lorries two days a week and is also busy with seven reels on other potato plots. At the end of the week, the weather forecasts are based on 5 millimeters and 12 millimeters next Monday, which Janssen can of course use on his crops.
Daan Goense from Driewegen doesn't even think about harvesting yet. "Not too hot and too dry yet. Must fall 40 millimeters first." The Innovator are worn out enough already. As soon as it is wet enough, it can be harvested. Herman Schlepers from Dronten (Fl) also announces that he is not yet ready for grubbing. He now irrigates his potatoes, because there is still growth potential in them. Also in West Brabant there is still sufficient growth potential to leave the harvester in the shed, says Kees Vrolijk from Fijnaart (NB). In the trial harvest, Vrolijk scored by far the lowest with 30,6 tons, with 10 tons less than the rest. He wasn't much concerned about this. Right now it turns out. He took a sample himself two weeks after the trial harvesting and came to 49 tons. Merry gave at the Boerenbusiness Trial harvesting already indicated that this was also the case last year and that the kilos will grow later in his potato crop. His potatoes are starting to wear out now.
