'No work for rhizoctonia in sorting thanks to Allstar'

7 April 2023

Timo van den Heuvel has been fitting satisfactorily for years all star against rhizoctonia in its seed potatoes. "The requirements for the appearance of seed potatoes are becoming increasingly important," he says as an important reason. "And Allstar is soft on the tuber and easy to use."

Although the rhizoctonia pressure on his company is not high, both tuber and soil treatment are standard in the cultivation of seed potatoes at Timo van den Heuvel's company. "I've never tried it without chemistry, but to be honest I don't have any plans in that direction," he begins his story. "I don't want to take any risks with the appearance of my seed potatoes. One of my varieties goes to Israel, where they are quite strict about the skin quality. And I have chicory and tulips in my cultivation plan. Then you have to be a little more careful."

Positive experiences
Van den Heuvel has an arable farm of 70 hectares in Bant in the Noordoostpolder. On the loamy soil of 15-20% siltable, he grows seed potatoes, consumption potatoes, sugar beets, seed onions, celeriac, grain and the aforementioned chicory and tulips (for rent). The arable farmer switched to this fairly quickly after its introduction all star for soil treatment for its seed potatoes. "My crop protection supplier ProfytoDSD had already had positive experiences with the product in its own tests for a few years. In addition to its good effect, they also mentioned the softness on the tuber; it has no adverse effect on the germ. That appealed to me," explains Van den Hill's choice. He therefore switched to the Allstar with his entire seed potato acreage in one go.

No work from rhizoctonia
With four years of experience, Van den Heuvel is a satisfied user. "I don't have rhizoctonia work in sorting," he laughs. "The Allstar brings me easy-to-read seed potatoes. The product just works as it should and gives a nice peel quality." The seed potato grower is also positive about the practical application of the fungicide. "You need very little of it, so no lugging jerry cans. And it mixes well with the APP," he concludes.

Allstar now also approved for tuber treatment
The fungicide Allstar has already proven itself over the past five seasons as a reliable agent for foliar application. Last year, potato growers were also able to do so for the first time all star use as a tuber treatment agent. The product is very effective on rhizoctonia and has a side effect on silver scurf. Allstar is very gentle on the crop. This is reflected in a smooth outgrowth of the crop and ultimately results in a higher yield. Potatoes with small sprouts can also be treated. The dosage is 0,2 l/ton. Refer to the label for more details.
