The difference of spring 2023 is large compared to recent years. We were used to starting early, even very early, with spring work, but at the moment almost all crops still have to be sown or planted. Hopefully we can start in the course of next week, everything will then follow each other quickly.
When the potatoes have been planted, attention must also be paid to weed control. After all, adequate weed control has a positive effect on the yield and causes fewer problems during harvesting. The right choice of means is of crucial importance here. The experiences with gofor have been very positive since its introduction in 2021.
Results 2022
Gofor is a combination of aclonifen with flufenacet.
Flufenacet is an active substance from a new subgroup for potato cultivation, namely the HRAC group 15, oxycetamides. This fits in perfectly with resistance management.
The above shows the results of a demo trial in Zeewolde 2022 (fig. 2, 3 and 4). At both objects 900 gr aclonifen/ha is applied. With the Gofor (fig. 4) 300 g flufenacet has been added.
Conclusion: the addition of flufenacet to the aclonifen extends the action.
We also see this broad effect in practice on a number of common weeds such as black nightshade, outstanding report, redshank and swallow's tongue. We also see a good effect with Gofor on roosters' feet, which nowadays occur on many arable farms.
Thorn apple
Thorn apple is a weed that we see more and more appearing, especially in the eastern potato-growing areas. The seeds of this weed are very undesirable in the processing of French fries potatoes. Combating the thorn apple is very challenging. Gofor has shown in the research that it gives the best results, although not 100% control, but a distinctive effect!
Duration operation
The experiences from trials and demo strips of recent years have shown that the mixes in which the Gofor is used show a longer lasting effect.
The images above are from September 29, 2022 of a starch potato demo trial in Grolloo. The object with Gofor (fig. 7) clearly shows less annual annual grass.
summarizing: a good long-lasting effect on annual meadow grass!

seed potatoes
The use of Gofor in seed potatoes is not recommended. This in connection with possible crop reaction when Gofor is applied shortly before emergence and a lot of precipitation follows immediately afterwards. This is a temporary crop response.
