Despite the late spring with low temperatures and high rainfall, the first thrips in seed onions have been observed at a number of locations. The warm weather of the past week has given the thrips cycle a significant boost.
To prevent major problems with thrips, it is important to intervene in good time under good conditions; we have learned in recent years not to wait before tackling thrips in onions.
Applications
When the first adults are observed in the crop, it is important to start with good recording conditions Batavia 0,75 l/ha + Robber 2 l/ha. The active substance needs seven to ten days in the cultivation of onions to make the result visible.
Spirotetramat only has an effect on the larval stages of the thrips. If you find the number of adults per plant too high, there is the possibility to FLIPPER® + Dynex® to bet.
FLiPPER tackles all stages of the thrips. Use sufficient water, at least 500 l/ha, to reach the destination. Choose the time of day when the spray liquid does not dry up quickly and the thrips are most active. With these points of attention, the effectiveness will be better.
Repeat the application of Batavia + Robbester after fourteen days to control the population well. Both Batavia and FLiPPER are selective for natural enemies, so that they can also contribute to the fight against thrips.
Status of the crop
The position of the onions is very variable this season. In case of a very small crop, it is also an option to carry out the first spraying with FLiPPER + Dynex. When the thrips are easy to hit because of the small, open crop, FLiPPER can also be positioned here.
A subsequent spraying can then be carried out with Batavia + Robbester if the crop is somewhat larger and the absorption of the product is perhaps better.
