Irrigation advice and intuition: The perfect mix

24 August 2023

In the past summer, BioScope's Irrigation Signal played a role in optimizing irrigation strategies. This is also the case with seed onion grower David de Wit from Kladde in West Brabant. David shares his positive experiences with BeregeningsSignaal.

In addition to the irrigation advice from BeregeningsSignaal, De Wit also follows sensors and his own sense of the condition of the crop. "BeregingsSignaal's model fits well with my own perceptions of the moisture condition. The graph also keeps up with the development of the root depth of the crop."

How does Irrigation Signal work?
You fill in your company data once online (plots, plot shape, crop, sowing/planting date). BeregingsSignaal then monitors the moisture balance per plot and warns you in good time via SMS and/or email if irrigation is desirable.

The advice is based on location-specific information from all over the Netherlands about the soil, supplemented with your personal crop data, accurate weather data and weather forecasts. You will also receive advice on the required amount of water for each plot. Irrigation Signal thus prevents unnecessary costs due to early irrigation (fuel, labour, water). But you also prevent costs associated with too late or too much irrigation.

The Irrigation Signal currently supports the following crops:

  • Grassland
  • Potato
  • Sugar beet
  • More
  • Pea
  • Spinach
  • Carrot
  • pacifier
  • Salsify
  • Tulip (beta version)
  • Lily (beta version)
  • Seed onion (beta version)
