B-Mox test field: difference in turnout

To demonstrate the differences in growth between BC and B-Mox® treated seed, De Groot en Slot asked onion grower Jorg Buth from Dirksland to set up a test. In his Hyfive primed B-Mox® plot, he has sown two rows of BC onion seed in a number of beds. 

The plot was sown on May 1, and from that moment on we have intensively monitored and recorded the development. When the seed germinated, the differences were quickly visible. We also clearly saw at emergence that B-Mox® had a much faster and even development. Such a rapid and even development is desirable to quickly grow through the critical phase in which bean and onion flies can cause the most damage. A rapid, even emergence also makes it easier to determine the timing of herbicide application. 

Jorg Buth from Dirksland switched to primed onion seed three years ago. We asked him why he ordered B-Mox® seed this year: "No doubt anymore, I always use primed B-Mox® for faster germination and a nice even emergence of the onions." 

Cultivation specialist Sander Dekker from CAV Agroteek: "By priming seed onions with B-Mox®, we see a faster emergence in this cold, wet spring, which makes weed control with contact agents easier and better to carry out."

Jacky Dieleman from Landbouwbedrijf Dieleman from Philippine is also enthusiastic: "They were right at De Groot and Slot with their new priming, they are growing like crazy!"

The B-Mox® technology for onion seed has been introduced with effect from the 2023/24 season. It is an improved priming combined with an optimal coating. For more than five years, Bejo and De Groot en Slot tested various techniques prior to the introduction.
