Large precipitation differences for potatoes and onions
The rain front that passed over the Netherlands last night and in the early morning of Thursday to Friday, including the showers before that, led to large differences in precipitation in the Netherlands. Based on on the dates of the weather stations on the plots of the Boerenbusiness Crop tour, most millimeters fell in the northeast of the Netherlands.
In the Crop Tour follows Boerenbusiness twenty plots of potatoes and onions throughout the Netherlands. In order to monitor crop growth properly, the participating growers receive a weather station from AgroExact for the plot each season, so that precipitation and temperature can also be recorded.
From the overview of the last 24 hours (until Friday 27 June 9:00) the weather stations appear to have registered large differences in precipitation. In Midwolda (potatoes) and Veelerveen (onions), both in the east of Groningen, by far the most precipitation fell with over 25 millimeters each. A big difference with the two plots in Appelscha and Kimswerd in neighboring Friesland, which had to make do with 9 to almost 4 millimeters respectively. In Flevoland around 6 to 10 millimeters fell, based on the data from the weather stations in Dronten and Marknesse.
The plots in the southwest of the Netherlands, such as in Zeeland and West-Brabant, are clearly worse off in terms of precipitation with 1 to 4 millimeters. For the participating growers in those areas, where irrigation is not always possible or allowed, that is bad luck and sour. What is striking is the 17,8 millimeters on the plot in Nederweert in Limburg. There was a heavy local shower there on Thursday.
