Climate-resilient farming: looking ahead together

4 July 2025

Climate-resilient farming is not a luxury, but increasingly a necessity. This became clear during the webinar of Groen Kennisnet on water management in agriculture. Drought, salinization and heavy rainfall make working on the land increasingly challenging. In conversation with Chantal Everaardt (RTV Oost), three experts shared their insights. Not to tell farmers what to do, but to explore together what is possible.

The webinar shows that there are no simple answers, but there is a lot of knowledge, experience and willingness to work together. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to discover how we can build climate-robust agriculture together.

From crisis to risk management
Instead of reacting afterwards, the speakers advocate a proactive approach: risk management. Practical measures such as increasing organic matter in the soil, retaining water and adjusting crops were discussed. Cooperation between farmers, water boards and governments also appears to be crucial: after all, water does not stop at plot boundaries.

Getting started with climate-resilient farming
To better prepare farmers and other stakeholders for the consequences of climate change, Groen Kennisnet has launched the learning environment Climate-resilient Farmers launched. This online environment offers practical information, useful tools, inspiring practical examples and teaching materials. Farmers, students, teachers and policy makers can use this to better understand risks such as drought, flooding and heat stress and to respond to them in a targeted manner.

In addition, the learning environment refers to the podcast series Sowing the Future, in which researchers and experts discuss topics such as water availability, entrepreneurship, salinization, risk management.
