Thrips pressure increases due to warm and dry weather

17 July 2025

The recent warm and dry weather has increased thrips pressure on onion fields, a situation we're currently seeing in several locations across the country. Fields where the onions aren't growing well are particularly vulnerable. A vigorously growing crop is less susceptible to thrips damage.

Last week, rain fell in many places, which is beneficial, as thrips don't tolerate wet conditions. However, it remains important to remain vigilant. Temperatures above 25 degrees Celsius are expected again in the coming days, while precipitation is absent. Under such conditions, thrips pressure can quickly rise again.

Keep checking
Therefore, check your crop regularly for the presence of thrips. Pay particular attention to the plant's shaft near the youngest inner leaves, as this is where thrips prefer to hide.
