The first four plots of seed onions of the Boerenbusiness The harvested crops have been harvested. One of them (today, August 22nd) is already being loaded. Harvesting is going well, and the yields appear good at first glance. The size also seems to be good.
The first three plots to be harvested are both located in the south of the Netherlands. Onion grower Jacky Dieleman lowered his harvester in Philippine, Zeeland, earlier this week, as did David de Wit in Lepelstraat, North Brabant. Hubert Linders from Nederweert, Limburg, already harvested his onions last weekend. In Philippine, irrigation was applied beforehand to prepare the plot for harvesting. "The evening before harvesting, I watered the plot with 12 millimeters. This made the soil nice and soft, and harvesting went very smoothly," says Jacky.

After irrigating his onions seven times and having been dry for four weeks now, David didn't expect the harvesting to go so well. "I thought the structure had suffered, but it wasn't too bad. I had to keep driving so the onions wouldn't fall bare." In the middle of the country, Jan Berend Biesheuvel from Zeewolde (Flevoland) also harvested his onions this week. Jan Berend's Crop Tour plot will be used for other purposes starting next fall, so he's eager to have his onions harvested by September 1st. In Nederweert, Hubert Linders is the first of the Crop Tour participants to harvest his onions. He says that loading has already begun and is progressing well.
