Dutch Crop tour weekend 12

First onions of the Crop Tour in the ground

25 March 2021 - Redactie Boerenbusiness

Spring work on the land has been resumed this week after a wet period. This also applies to the participants of the Crop Tour. The fields are tilled, fertilized and the first field of onions has been sown.

Martijn Derikx sowed the seed onions on the sandy soil in Ysselsteyn. Derikx has opted for the Baritto variety on beds of 1,50 metres, with 4 rows. Conditions are good this week, after it was too cold earlier.

Spring work is underway
Now that spring is showing itself, it is getting busier on the farmlands. On the heavier soils it is still wet, but there too the topsoil is becoming increasingly grey. For example, there was spraying work on the onion plot in Kimswerd in Friesland, the fields are being prepared for planting and fertilization is taking place on the onion plot in Wezup in Drenthe. There, 10 tons of foamed soil, 30 tons of compost and NATU-C, a liquid fertilizer of 200 kg K, 26 kg P and 100 kg N, were fertilized.
