Dutch Crop tour Potato - week 25

Potato standings compared to other years

June 25, 2021 - Jesse Torringa

Now that the potatoes are growing well and the first tubers have also been formed, it is possible to compare how the potatoes are compared to previous seasons. Is the growth now in line with other years or are there clear differences in the plots?

De Boerenbusiness Crop tour has been following potato plots with the Innovator variety for several seasons. For some potato growers who have been participating for several years and who therefore grow Innovator in the same region. This allows good comparisons to be made with other years and the differences become clear.

Slowing growth in 2021 confirmed
There are of course differences due to the leg dates of recent years, but it is clear that 2020 is ahead of other years. The differences with the 2021 growing season are also large. The tubers in particular are a lot smaller this year or even need to be developed. The foliage of the plants is also lagging behind: the crop is less high and most plots have only recently been closed. Flowering is now also starting to come in.

The captions of the images contain the location and dates of the plots.
