The American grain giant Bunge has received an agreement from the European Commission to acquire parts of agro-multinational Cargill. It concerns the acquisition of two processing plants for oil-bearing business in France and the Netherlands.
The press factory for oilseeds and refining is located in the port of Amsterdam. There is a press installation for oilseeds and storage facilities in Brest, France. According to the committee, the purchase does not give rise to competition concerns, because there are sufficient competitors and importers in the soy complex on the market.
The proposed purchase of the two sites, with an annual processing capacity of approximately two million tons, was announced last August. At the time, Cargill indicated - despite the sale - that it wanted to remain active in Europe.
The companies said in a joint statement that there will be no layoffs as a result of the deal. In the Netherlands, 120 employees will transfer to Bunge, in France 51.
