In December 2016, Cosun already announced that it was counting on a minimum beet price for the 2016 harvest of 40 euros per tonne. A level that was last achieved in 2008. It was more than 4 euros per tonne more, the cooperative announced to its members on Wednesday.
Coöperatie Cosun, owner of Suiker Unie, will pay out EUR 44,15 per net tonne for the 2016 beet. This price applies to quota beet delivered in the 2016 campaign at average quality (a sugar content of 17,05 percent and a WIN of
90,9). Just like last year, the basic price is 38,50 euros per tonne.
That is a better result than Cosun had expected. Compared to the prices of recent years, however, the result is one of the less good years. Only in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 did the price drop. According to Suiker Unie, the decrease is the result of low sugar prices, but this has been compensated by the results of the other companies, Aviko in particular.
Tomorrow (Thursday) the beet price and the results of Cosun will be explained in more detail at a press conference.

We cannot complain about these prices. Just ask a farmer from Belgium or England. These countries get the eu minimum..... for years!!
All regrets for this. Go to a growers' meeting and you will understand how the beet price follows sugar prices. Or just plant a lot of pagers that is part of your way of thinking behind the market!
