Belgian sugar beet growers from Raffinerie Tirlemontoise still do not know where they stand. The latter does not accept the growers' compromise proposal, so that the deadlock continues.
The Coordinating Committee of the Planters of Haspengouw advises its growers not to sign a contract proposal from the sugar factory. Without an interprofessional agreement, this could have unpleasant implications for both parties, as the European legislator leaves no room for doubt that such an agreement is necessary.
The beet growers are now asking for arbitration from the regional agriculture ministers.
The committee indicates that it does not want to give way to the compromise proposal, because the sugar factory itself is standing firm with regard to the beet price.
De Tiense Sugar Refinery did not want to comment on the four conditions formulated by the Coordination Committee of the Haspengouw beet growers. The compromise proposal is therefore off the table and another solution is not immediately in sight.
The deadlock must be resolved before the seeding, so the arbitration procedure must be activated quickly.
