Over 88 million hectares

America expects record number of hectares of soya

The US Department of Agriculture expects US farmers to plant a record 88 million hectares of soy this spring. This was announced by the US Department on Thursday at the 'Agriculture Outlook Forum' in Virginia.

The favorable prices are the main reason to start producing more soy. According to the American economist Robert Johansson, this will make the choice for the production of corn or wheat less likely.

Number of hectares of maize remains the same as the previous forecast

In November 2016, the economist expected that 85,5 million hectares of soy would be planted. This has now been increased to more than 88 million hectares. In addition, Johansson expects that the number of hectares of maize will remain the same as the forecast in November, namely 90 million hectares.

The expectation of the number of hectares of wheat has decreased compared to the forecast in November. Johansson predicted more than 48 million hectares of wheat in November. This dropped to 46 million hectares last Thursday.

According to the experts, exports will rise to USD 136 billion in the coming six months.
