Campaign completed

Record sugar yield for Agrana

6 March 2017 - Redactie Boerenbusiness

Agrana's beet campaign has been successfully completed after 135 days. The company achieved record sales by producing more than one million tons of sugar for the first time.

More than 6,7 million tons of beets were processed into sugar in Agrana's seven factories. In previous years this was only 5,4 million tons of sugar beet. This yielded the company 2015 tons of sugar in 800.000.

More than 500.000 tons of sugar were produced in Austria

The majority of sugar beet was processed in Austria, more than 3,4 million tons. That resulted in about 500.000 tons of sugar. In Tulln, on average, the most sugar per hectare was harvested. This is mainly due to the favorable weather conditions, according to Markus Simak of Agrana Tulln.

Yields per hectare had grown significantly in all producing countries. An average of 94.000 tons of sugar beet was harvested on 70 hectares.
